You tried to diet and you fail every time. Why? I can help you. First, let’s get you thinking correctly about you. Not your body – you.
I wanted to give this section the title Loving yourself, but Christians have been so conditioned to think that loving yourself is a sin. We are told that we are so valuable that the Father sacrificed his own Son for us, but then after we are saved — to have any self-esteem or love for oneself is a grave sin. Why?
First you need to realize, that command – you know, to love your neighbor as yourself. It is in the present tense “Love your neighbor as you are now loving yourself.” How can you love anyone if you don’t first love yourself?
I believe the number one reason that people fail at diets is because most people fail to love themselves enough to believe that they deserve to be thin and healthy. The failure to see yourself as a work of art, created by God to do great things for Him. A failure to understand being healthy means you will be a better servant for the King.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Most of the time the reason we don’t like — or even loath — ourselves is because we don’t measure up to some ideal painted for us by the world. This is idolatry in its most basic form.
You need to come to a place of realizing that loathing yourself does nothing for anyone, not even yourself. Honor God. Take care of yourself.
In all you do, even when you sit down to eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
